Literary Exploration
There is no denying the fact that language constitutes the identity of a community. Without language a community cannot thrive and prosper. We cannot think of our culture and everyday practices without language. We also cannot effectively communicate with various state agencies for support and help. In fact literature is a reflection of humanity and a way for us to understand each other. It reflects cultural values and serves as a tool for teaching those values to others. Though, Banamalli respects diversity and multiculturalism, we also strive to protect our thousands year old own cultural practices. In general, Odia is our classical language and harbinger of our art, architecture, and dance in totality Odia culture. Banamalli has been publishing an annual magazine named ‘Mahaka’ since 2017 which encompasses writings (poem, story and essay) from the young writers across Odisha. In this connection our team visits/writes letter to different schools, colleges and youth clubs to encourage the young mind to send their own write-ups and which are given place in the magazine latter. The sole purpose is to identify literary talents among the rural region and nurture them by providing adequate platform.
Health Care
There is a common saying that, those who have health have hope; and those who have hope have everything. Health is the biggest wealth in Life. In fact the progress of a nation largely depends upon the state of physical and mental wellness of its citizens. India has made rapid strides in the health sector since independence. However, various eye opening data from different surveys clearly indicate that access to healthcare still remains a challenge. While the health facilities in the urban area are improving, the situation of rural society is discouraging. In this regard Banamali is playing active role in its operational area. Our members frequently donate blood to the poor/needy patients as well as co-ordinate with the blood donors. We periodically organise health awareness drives at different parts of Jajpur district. Our members are committed to take the needy patients to hospitals. Banamalli also acts as an agent of change as we strive to ensure availability of different health infrastructures in different CHCs/PHCs of our district. In this light, we often meet officials to express worries and convey our demands for the community.
Education
It is often said that, a Nation’s future lies in the proper education of its members. Education is an important tool that enables people to participate in decisions making which affect their lives and in improving their way of living. Education is both the means as well as the end to a better life. As a matter of fact, it empowers an individual to earn his/her livelihood and as an end it increases one's awareness on a range of issues- from healthcare to appropriate social behaviour to understanding one's rights and in the process evolve as better citizens understanding their duties. Banamalli has understood the relevance of education and playing an instrumental role educate youths from poor and marginalised sections. We provide monetary support to the needy meritious students to pursue education and achieve their dream. We also conduct multiple awareness drives in different villages and meet parents to ensure their children attending schools.
Youth Empowerment
Empowering the youths have become quite relevant. There has never been a better time to invest in youth empowerment. They are the leaders of coming days and if appropriate opportunities are made available to put their natural endowment to creative and productive channels, they are indeed capable of working wonders. Youth empowerment is a process whereby young people gain the ability, authority and agency to make decision and implement change in their own life and the lives of people around them. Banamalli focuses upon the youth clubs in the local region and regularly conducts meeting to provide them guidance relating to career and job opportunities. We also put our efforts to nurture the sports and cultural talents of the youths by organising cultural festivals and sports event.
Awareness Drives
Awareness has a magnifying effect on quality of life. Awareness of people on local and global issues is the key to social development. This is obviously comes from education. It is widely known that people of rural society are less aware about multiple issues which results into countless difficulties. Since Banamalli is operating at a rural area, it gives emphasis upon spreading awareness on range of issues like; entitlements, health, education, environment, alcoholism, voting rights and many more. During the COVID-19 pandemic the organisation has made considerable efforts to propagate awareness among the people to strictly take precautionary measures to combat its menace.
Helping Hand
Individual is by nature social and hence regarded as a social animal. S/he largely depends upon the society to draw material as well as emotional needs for survival. Hence giving back to society is not generosity rather responsibility. Offering a helping hand to people in need is considered as highest values in our society. It consists of a wide range of activities in helping others for the common good and it is done without expecting anything in return.We, at Banamalli, considersuccess not just about building reputation rather it is all about how we can contribute to bring change in someone’s life. We continue our responsibility of extending helping hand to the poor meritious students, patients in need and people from underprivileged communities.
Combating Global Warming
Environmental degradation or deterioration of the environment through depletion of natural resources is a rising concern. Natural habitat destruction or natural resources depletion is the principal cause of the environmental degradation. Environmental degradation is one of the ten threats officially cautioned by the High-level Panel on ‘Threats, Challenges and Change’ by the United Nations. The United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction defines environmental degradation as ‘the reduction of the capacity of the environment to meet social and ecological objectives and needs’. Team Banamalli is very much concerned about the issue of environmental corrosion. We extol the practice of ‘go green’ in all our dealings. We are giving much importance to plantation of trees as well as its protection. We have collaborated with the youth clubs and communities in this endeavour
Women Empowerment
Empowering women is all about prioritising their voice and choices. Empowerment is a holistic concept. In order to empower we need to ensure participation of women in all the spheres. Empowering women is an indispensable tool for advancing development and reducing poverty. Empowered women contribute to the health and productivity of whole families and communities and improved prospects for the next generation. The importance of gender equality is emphasised in the Sustainable Development Goals. But unfortunately in India, far from empowering women, most are denied even their basic rights like health, education of girls for women empowerment, employment and a respectable status in society. The situation is much tragic in rural society. The issue of women empowerment is one of our prime focuses. Banamalli is constantly making awareness against the evil practice of child marriage. We are providing financial fillip to poor meritious girl students to pursue education. We are encouraging rural women to form SHGs and initiate some livelihood generating activities. Currently we are planning to provide livelihood opportunities to women so that they can be self-sufficient and helpful to their family.
